You should see the state that some of these cars are in and the amount of time and effort put into making them solid again just for a few races.
I admire their hard work even if I don't like to see the classics going round the track
They are usually good enough to offer up any unwanted parts though to help keep the road going one's on the road

Re: Banger Boys
They were very popular for banger racing back in the day, thousands will have gone that way.

Re: Banger Boys
The thing I don't like, quite apart from seeing classics trashed, is that it's not always unsaveable cars that get smashed up, I know of a perfectly restorable 'S' type Jag and a complete Austin Somerset that could easily / quickly have gone back on the road, (plus I've heard of others) that went to the banger track.
And once they've got them they won't part with them to allow them to be saved.
Just to satisfy their lust to smash up and destroy.
For all their claims to recycle spare parts from these cars, they are not as good as some people make them out to be.
Then throw into the mix cars that get stolen to be banger raced - look at Practical Classics Ford Granada a few years back, I believe that ended up on the banger track.
Sorry but I think it's long past time that time was called on banger racing.
Regards,
Mike.

Re: Banger Boys
I regularly go to the spedeworth tracks and I have also seen morris minors raced.
I love banger racing, stock car racing and all forms in between.
The A60 amble is one of my fav meetings, I recently went to an all westy meeting and a all granada one coming up. There is no problems racing these cars, I also love my morris minor, but watching them out on track is great fun too.
Absolutely nothing wrong with Banger racing in my mind!

Re: Banger Boys
No, not at all! The number of surviving classic cars of any type does not have a bearing on the value. Desirability and fashion determine the value. Hence there are loads of 1960's and 1970's VW camper vans about and a fully restored one goes for up to 30K. An undesirable classic, even if very rare, will be worth much less money.faversham999 wrote:Just watched Banger boys on TV they Raced some old A 60 good for banger racing but still only lasted one meeting . 100 A60 type gone for recycling . Good job the Minor is too small and not a separate chassis so they are not often banger raced.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO
