Help! What will these disc brackets fit?

Post by LanceNZ »

Hi All
I have to start tackling the front brakes on my Traveller. I have attached some photos of the aftermarket disc caliper brackets that have already been fitted by a previous owner. Unfortunately, neither discs or calipers where fitted when I inherited the car so I have no existing parts to help with identification.
I would like to fit disc brakes to the car and it would make sense to use the brackets that are already fitted. Can any one help me in identifying what type of caliper and disc will fit on this bracket? Marina? Herald? MG Midget / MGB?
The dimensions are as follows:
Caliper mount bolt holes are 82mm c/c and are on a 72mm radius from the stub axle centre point.
The mounting plate sits approx 57mm behind the hub mounting flange.

Any help greatly appreciated,
Cheers

the brackets look like marina / ital so MGb calipers can be made to fit.

the problem that i see is that the hubs look like minor ones ( if you could measure the pcd, it would help to confirm this ) in which case you can not fit the marina / ital discs..

so you will need to either source marina / ital hubs + back plates or source a complete disc brake kit.

Yes - the disc hubs have been taken away with the calipers...... Just source a complete set - the brackets are the very least of it all. Or - fit a set of drum brakes for now, and worry about discs later, if you find you need them.......

Plenty of scrapyards left in NZ where the arm of Europe hasn't got to yet. So you should still be able to pick over a Marina for the requisite parts, if it hasn't sunk into the ground already.

Thanks for your comments guys.
I would source a Marina set locally but as they are the only part of a Marina that has any value, they normally sell for good money - they do come up ocaisionally so I might just keep my eyes open.

But as you said bmcecosse, I might just stick with the drums for now :)

Nothing wrong with drums - see the original road tests of the car when new - 1g stops were normal.
