which pistons are original?

Post by TvdWerf »

Another question:
When cleaning the parts, taps and nuts, I saw the pistons were damaged a little.
Because I have some spare, I took them to look if they are fitting.
But I have 2 different pistons, and which one are in the engine, I do not know.[frame]Image[/frame]This one are the best fitting, but with an extra ring
[frame]Image[/frame] in this box the were stored.
[frame]Image[/frame]And these are 0005 and 0010 pistons
[frame]Image[/frame] And mounted are 030 pistins, but damaged.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame] Both the front (right) pistons are damaged, to see on the pictures.
Where to buy new piston rings?
At any local shop, or is there not much choice?

The pistons with the extra ring will be a newer type of piston. When I had my MM rebored I got pistons and rings from ESM, when they arrived they had been manufactured in Australia and they had that extra ring fitted.

I see that ESM list +20,30,40 and 60 as well as standard rings

Probably worth contacting Bryan at club spares to see what he has available.

I recently bought a set of standard size pistons from Bryan, after having my engine sleeved back to original sizes. The sleeves also came from Bryan, all wrapped in about half an inch of MOD grease.

All the 4 piston has broken rings, 2 of them are heavy damaged.[frame]Image[/frame]
So this engine needs 4 other pistons and rings, to run again ;)

I have just stripped two WD engines, one rebuilt 4 years ago and the other unknown. Both had 4 ring pistons.

My other engine has 3 different pistons inside ;)[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]
All of them had different psiton rings, some of them 2 smaller rings in one groove....
But when I have 4 .30 pistons with rings, this engine will run again.
