:oops: fitted my cable and now the speedo moves even when car is not
in drive? had it jacked up and when in drive the speedo bounces
all over the place :oops:
you thoughts please :-?

My immediate reaction is that the gearbox end of the new cable is not correctly engaged.
Also..did you correctly follow the original route for the cable, with " soft " bends and no nasty "sharp" ones ?

Undo the cable end and pull back the nut as far as it will go.Gently re-engage the inner cable and "feel "the correct location.Maintain the pressure and thighten the nut.

Have you tested the speedo with a (reverse running) electric drill??
