Adjusting odometer
Hi All,
I recently had to replace my speedo as it had a 15mph discrepancy!! I need to set the miles to that on my original and i have tried to adjust by attaching a drill to the and of the cable that goes into the gearbox but my drill only does a top speed of 30mph so it would take a century to wind the miles round to the correct milage. Does anybody know another way i can adjust the miles??
Thanks
Marc

Re: Adjusting odometer
You can carefully 'pick' the numbers round - but there's a goodly risk of damaging them.......

Re: Adjusting odometer
There's some info in this thread but do you need to change the mileage? When I had to replace my speedo I just made a note of the old & new mileage readings for info but it hasn't been a problem at MOT time. http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f= ... lit=speedo

Re: Adjusting odometer
Same here when I needed a new speedo 20 years ago I made a note in the service book ,and when I was contacted by trading standards, about the low mileage ,when the dealer I sold it to had it on his forecourt ,they accepted my explanation

Re: Adjusting odometer
The Series MM/II speedo mileage can be changed quite easily by lifting the ratchet and rotating the drums

Re: Adjusting odometer
In my opinion on a Minor 1000 speedo the only way to guarantee a mileage change without damaging the delicate pawl assembly is to strip it. Not especially difficult, but fiddly.

Hope to have an online article on the better side soon

Re: Adjusting odometer
Why change the mileage? Just take a photo of both speedos together, so long as it is documented for any future buyer then it isn't a problem.

Re: Adjusting odometer
Does the Speedo come under the MOT test? (i.e. not reading the correct speed).

They check it 'functions' but no check on accuracy. Glass face must not be cracked..and it must light up at night!
