Oil pressure gauge

Hi all,

Looking at getting a oil pressure gauge, I understand there are two types; mechanical and electronic. Could anyone provide any info as to pros/cons regarding each? Assuming there are some.

Also, as a number of gauges on eBay don't come with fittings I know I will need some. For which gauge type is the capillary tube needed? I have found this one:

Would this fit an oil gauge with a quarter style front face? From what I've read most of the quarter faced ones are electronic and the dials are mechanical?

Apologies if this is painful to read, I'm not completely clued up on these.

No, for an electric gauge you need a sender and wire. The capillary gauges are the best as they need no voltage stabiliser, and work with the ignition off.

I used the same kit, but not the braided hose just the nylon pipe shown on your link.
It works fine and isnt difficult to fit, I fitted it in conjunction with a temp gauge as shown.The oil pressure gauge is useful, I am not sure the temp gauge is as necessary though.[frame][/frame]

This is what I did. Gauge from Mini Speed, "T" piece, straight adapter, plastic pipe and mounting bracket from ESM. If you want to light it up then a lamp holder will be required, I got mine from a local auto center[frame][/frame]

The feed for a mechanical oil pressure gauge is a length of plastic or copper tube and is fairly robust. The feed for a capillary temperature gauge is filled with something which someone is going to remind me and is fragile and is useless if the tube is broken. The mechanical /capillary gauges are however usually more accurate and do not require a voltage stabiliser or wiring other than the backlight.
The temp section of the dual gauge as shown was originally degF then degC then just HNC
