clutch issues

Post by markthe45king »

For a few weeks the clutch pedal on ily has been soft, with only the last inch or so being the only way to change gear, also the pedal hasn't been returning if the brake pedal was down.

Today after pulling into services and moving away and for the rest of the journey 1st was impossible, 2nd difficult the 2nd / 3rd change hard, but 3rd, 4th and reverse all pretty simple. I had a new clutch 2 years ago.

I'm assuming it's not just the pedal causing this is it, so what else should i be checking?

Check the bearings that the cross shaft between the chassis and gearbox run in.
If possible watch what happens underneath when the pedal is pushed.

As above - lubricate the clutch shaft/adjust the free play, and make sure a return spring is fitted......

To stop the pedals working against one another, renew the whole pedal shaft assembly and bushes, anything else is just playing with it!
