suspension differences

Post by noddycar »

Firstly a big g'day to all, I'm new member to you club but have been 'spying' on you as a non member, lots of good reading.
I have however been unable to find 'black and white' info on the van/pickup front suspension compared to the sedan/ (traveller?) suspension. You offen see it in spare parts lists etc, ''suspension what'samacallit, fits van and pickup models only". I don't know if I'm missing something really obvious or not in the differences. My brother and I are restoring a pickup that came with a lot of boxes of mixed parts, some sedan and some pickup/van. Also, I should mention the frame/chassis had already been stripped to bare bones, so no help there, we are now up to the stage of refitting suspension and want to know what parts are the right ones.

Differences are basically, the Van/Pick up has telescopic shock absorbers on the back in place of Lever Arms, has 8 leaf springs and the assembly is mounted on the chassis so potentially different shackles(??) etcetera.

What I'm actually trying to work out is they list 2 different uprights, one for car and the other van/pickup. The picture in advertisment looks the same, (see links) but obviously there must be a difference. Can sedan ones be swapped for van ones and visa versa?

The Morris 1000 front suspension is the same for all models except the 8 cwt version of the van and pickup which has heavy duty steering levers.

...and different uprights to take the larger taper on the thicker steering levers/arms.
