Hi
I fitted a new set of fuel point contacts last night (the 2 point type from esm), I had a few problems setting the gaps as they have 2 extra bits of metal on them (compared to the original type).
I have set the gap after a bit of bending, as the Haynes manual 0.03in when the blade is pressed down (gap mesured as fig 3.14 pg 74)
When I let go there is a gap of approx 4mm between the points, everything seems to work OK after a short test drive, I just wanted to check this is OK long term.
Thanks
Ed

The 2 point type were fitted in some later fuel pumps, so I think they just supply those as a 'one size fits all'.I fitted a new set of fuel point contacts last night (the 2 point type from esm), I had a few problems setting the gaps as they have 2 extra bits of metal on them (compared to the original type).
The lower half of the points has a back-stop which is supplied in an extreme setting which should make sure everyone remembers to set the gaps (if they supplied it in a nominal setting, many people wouldn't bother and just leave it set wrongly). If the pump chugs away happily then I would guess you've got it near enough.
Where exactly did you measure the 4mm?

Good, it is obvious that a double points set of contacts doubles
your chances of the pump continuing to work satisfactorily, long
may it tick for you.
