negative earth

Post by guydenning »

i have done a search on the useful tips bit but nuffink came up... i know it's bound to be here somewhere but haven't found it yet...

well i've picked up a spanking 57 minor - she's been given the moniker 'fifi' - don't ask... this car's got an amazing documented history by its owner from new - and it's generally un-restored (just extremely well looked after). eventually i'll knock up a little page on the interwibblywobblywebsuperhighway thingamajig for you all to peruse....
anyway...

how easy (or not) is it to convert to negative earth - and is it neccesary? i do want to fit halogen lights and a radio (preferably with FM - so modern-ish) on board if that makes a difference...

It's a piece of quiche - http://www.morrisminoroc.co.uk/technica ... Earth.html tells you all you need to know. About changing polarity, obviously...

Hmm, seems to work :P I think that you don't need the quote marks, 'snot Hypertext markup language, innit.

Doesn't look like a '57 model, more like 1967.

Fifi looks exactly like Mirium. I didn't get a kit to do the change to neg earth and I didn't do the "Turn the battery round" thing either .

Image

This is a picture before I started.

This is a 30in long red Battery strap. Instead of turning the battery round this cable run's from the positive side round the battery to the Solenoid. The earth strap is 10in long and I made a new earth point on the left hand side.

I also added a "Loose" cable tie to keep the cable off the rocker cover ..

Hello Justin,
that is a wise move as turning the battery round, (if correctly installed that is) moves the terminals close to the securing strap vastly increasing the chance of a serious short to earth.

"It's a piece of quiche", er Andrew, gateau?

Yes, unless you get a battery with the terminals already swapped round!! (like I did  ). Bit pointless though if you don't need a battery...... (I did! :( )

I also liked the idea fo the pre made crimped connectors which I thought better than the screw down type there origionally. Again the possibility of a serious short was possible ..

yayyyy - wallop as they say - somewhere or other. right then - it is a 58 mog. but the one owner from new (until 2003) maintained tweaked and amended to keep the vehicle suitable to his needs - so it isn't an historical relic of the time it was let out of the factory...

I'm at uni with a 15" flatscreen and it fits. That said I'm running 1280x1024. Maybe you need to up the resolution there kevin?

Dan with Justins engine bay pictures I cannot see it all at once without moving from one side of the picture to the other and we run twin screens at work and it only occurs with oversized pictures.
Cheers
