seals and sealant

Post by Robbiet9999 »

Hi everybody.

Had the windscreen rubber replaced as it was leaking on both passenger and drivers side bottom corners. I have got the man coming again as suspect drivers side still leaking but not 100% sure due to where the water is resting. Are there any other places around the bulk head area that water could enter. I have checked for missing grommets and screws but cant find any. The water is resting on the floor under the glove box and also on the box section next to the door seal which is also new but there is a tiny gap there at the bottom but as its on the sill cover side i wouldnt have thought it was that. is there a rubber seal that fits the bottom of the wipers angled chrome cover were it comes out of the body if so coud that have perished as she is 55 yrs old and possibly original seal. I have a brand new carpet set to go in and sound proof matting as well so would like to be leak free before these go in.

Any help gratefully recieved

Yes, there should be a rubber gasket there and if perished can let water in : http://morrisminorspares.co.uk/shop/pro ... 37bf72048f

Are your quarterlight rubbers OK? If perished these can also be a source of water getting into the car.

Yes- there are seals under the chrome around the wiper spindles- changing them on my '62 saloon is a job I've got to do this weekend! Also, I believe water can also get in from the battery tray sometimes, so could be worth checking. You can get new seals for the wiper spindles, and they're cheap. I think I might fit mine with a spot of windscreen sealant for luck!

water will also leak in front bonnet hinges if gaskets are gone, i always use some dum dum and the gasket and tighten them down, same with the wheel box chrome covers, trust me water will always find a way in a minor if you dont use new seals and dum dum lol

I believe that i may have sorted the leak or rather the guy that changed the rubber on my windscreen. He had forgotten to run sealant around the outside lip. He had sealed the windscreen side but not the body side and water must have run around the rubber and through the joint between the dashboard and the scuttle panel. But yes new grommets and rubbers will be fitted to make sure.
