You need a kit to do it-available from several Minor suppliers.

Welcome to the forum. What size/spec of engine do you have ? A standard 948 or 1098 engine struggle with a 5 speed box..... And it's not an inexpensive conversion.

Errr - yes -much worse.... It will struggle to pull the standard 4th gear - never mind an overdrive 5th! But all is not lost - a head and carb upgrade would make it a lot more 'useful'.

Your engine will have low compression PISTONS - the head was never changed - if it has an L in the number. The upgrade is to fit a 12G940 head from a 1275 engine - and a larger 1.5" carb on a good alloy inlet manifold. This brings the power up nicely and is not too expensive. But it still amanges ok on the standard 4 speed box - better with a 3.9 or 3.7 final drive ratio. Or - go the 5 speed route if you wish - and retain whatever final drive ratio is on the car. If considering the 940 route - ask for details before you do it.

Hi, thank you for all your input I have made a list of things to look out for and will retain the ford gearbox until I have sourced other parts and can fit all together :D .
