Headlight wiring 1962 - what route?

As the attached pictures show, the wiring from the headlight switch, via the dip switch, has been altered. Probably due to failed switches in the past. My headlight dash switch has been removed and the foot switch bypassed. What's left is a steering column mounted stalk with main/dipped/screen wash switch and a rotary headlight switch above that. I'm putting the car back to how it would have been (give or take) and I want to know, do the wires go

1) from the dash lights switch through the bulkhead, then to the foot switch or;

2) from the dash lights switch to the foot switch then out to the engine bay?

The strange things people do!! Wise to get it back to standard. It's just a 'branch line' that runs down to the foot dip switch - not through the bulkhead.

On my 62 the brown/blue goes from the control box A1 to the light switch then the blue goes from there through the bulkhead in the loom to the back of the dipswitch on the engine side of the bulkhead, then the blue/white and blue/red go from there to the offside headlight. The two reds for the sidelights go from the switch through the bulkhead in the loom, one to the offside front lights and one to the back lights via a bullet connector under the control box then under the car in a loom routed near the clutch mechanism. Then there is a red/white from the switch to the speedo lights via a switch under the speedo.

Thanks for the routing info - I'll trace everything through the car and see what goes where - then put it back in the correct place.

Probably a safe bet that the foot switch is knackered then.

They are very robust - doubt it will be broken.

By the look of that household wiring connector it would appear that the wiring may be of a poor standard and is worth checking over thoroughly. I have had difficulty finding a wiring diagram for my car as it seems to have some elements that match earlier trafficator cars and some that match later cars. Do you have a modification to orange indicators or do your side and brakelights flash? Message me if you want a copy of the diagrams I have.

Beero, I have flashing brake lights with front indicators. Original to the car I understand. I think I have the correct wiring diagram but if it seems wrong, I'll take you up on your offer.

I've started replacing the various connectors including this for the horn[frame][/frame]
with the original style bullets and I've stripped the rotting loom back and re-wrapped it, so I'm getting there but one thing leads to another!

I'll take the foot switch out at the weekend and test it. Fingers crossed

According to my multi meter the floor switch is in fine fettle so there's one less thing I have to replace. New bullets on the wires and hopefully I'm good to go!
