Nope not true ill think you'll find (to my knowledge anyway).

I had mellenium minors in manchester carry out some work on my minor, installing flashing indicators. The front ones are clear, and perfectly legal, as is having the back brake lights flashing.
I believe on classics of a certain age dont have to have orange indicators.

The indicator lenses on the 1098 cars have a separate orange inner lense.
The separate inner orange lense just pulls out, it may need more than a "pull" probably more like a pry out with a suitable tool. But it'll come out. You'll need orange bulbs though.

I cant remember how the alloy divider/reflector between the side lamp and indicator fits in though.

I've got a set on Bluey.

You can't just pull the amber bit out, as this leaves transparent plastic (no refractor). They're glued in too.

You buy a whole replacement lens/cover thing, and amber bulbs, from Moss.

I'm very happy with mine. Always thought the orange lenses looked like a clowns rosy cheeks!

You do see a little orange (of the bulbs) through. But this could be done away with by using 'chrome' bulbs.

Vehicles used before September 1965 can have front indicators incorporated within the front position lights in which case they will be white and an MoT pass. The same criteria applies to rearstop lights or position lights so may also be red so is an MoT pass.
After Sept 1965 both front and rear indicators MUST BE AMBER

Thanks for clarifying - one of my cars failed its MoT for showing a white indicator so assumed this applied to all.

We get a LOT of fails and advisories on indicators not the correct colour IE white or only just amber because the amber paint on the bulbs always blisters off making the light white.
Most of the bulbs are offset pins so when they have no or little paint on em, you cant put em in fog or stop lights etc, just have to bin em. Ridiculos really. Some half wit behind a desk thought that one up, you know lets paint a bulb that gets red hot!

We are lucky to have such simple cars. It's a garage job to change bulbs (assuming the bulb, and not the whole lamp unit) on many modern cars. Some of those all-singing all-dancing self-dipping units on high-end cars cost a LOT of money.

Some bulbs are simple to change, some look or are said to be simple but are a pig. We advertsied headlamp bulbs fitted @ £7.50 that was fine until a Renault Meganne came in and I had to take bumber off to get light out to change bulb. Now Iv'e written accross corner of said sign "FROM £7.50"

A hole/cover was provided in the wheel arch liner but it would have take a 3 month old with arms and hands like ET to do it, Renault quote about 2 hours and reccomend doing both O/s & N/S while bumpers off! I can do them on about 50 mins now but by the time the next one comes in I'll have forgotten how I did it lol.........

Why is it always the headlight bulb with the battery behind it that blows
A friend took nearly all day to change the headlight bulb on his Merc. bumper assembly, inner wing, front wheel etc, etc. Half of the front of the car had to be removed.
