2 pack query

Post by pskipper »

So, I know enough not to risk spraying two pack. We're getting a Wolesely 16/60 which comes with a couple of tins of touch-up paint which is two pack and there are some areas like door bottoms (the very underside of the door, not visible unless you are lying on your back) which need a little treatment for surface rust to stop it becoming anything else....

So my question is what do people think of the safety of brush painting two pack. I'm suspecting it's safe enough in a well ventilated area but would appreciate advice from people with a bit more experience.

You can buy masks under £20 on Ebay that state they are safe with 2K.Look for "Gerson".I arent recommending them just stating a fact!!!!!!!I have used them personally. You can also buy non cyanide hardener. As Kennatt says the hardeners ok until atomised although I wouldnt drink it.

Brush painting will be fine -don't worry. I believe it flows out very nicely.

I can't see how brushing or using a roller will be any safer than spraying as harmful vapours will be released as part of the curing process, regardless of the application method. Spraying produces higher exposure but brushing doesn't eliminate the risk.

Take a look at the HSE website.

www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/guidance/mr4.pdf

This states that brushing more than 10 cm square is a risk and RPE is required. Fortunately it also says that the ill effects are asthma but no risk of cancer.

Thanks for all the replies. Don't think I'd be getting up to 10cm^2 thank goodness, especially as the car is going to be a daily drive so it will be one door at a time on sunny days when we don't need the car.

re the 2 pack . been using this stuff since it first came out. no problems brushing it. its the spraying of it that is dangerous. once atomised in the air during spraying it becomes a hazard to health. this is more true if you dont have good extraction as the concentrations in the working air are very high. as i say in brushing mode to meno more toxic than a tesco value bolognase! mind you some of the nanny state brigade may beg to differ
