oil Additive stops leaks!

Post by oldgranda »

Hi I have already posted this in the general section but clearly I think it would be better here. Can anyone tell me if it is worth while using an oil additive which claims to stop leaks. The product is made in the UK.

Depends on why it's leaking
If it's just a seal that's hardened up from age, the additives will USUALLY soften it up so it will seal. :D
If the leak is due to worn components or other mechanical concerns, no, the additive will not do any good.

Not sure how good it is but ive always used AMETECH restore in all my cars. Its got liquid copper in it i think that will help with any small pitting but very good with seals as it stopped my surpa twin turbo leaking oil through the turbo seals

Snake oil by any other name....... Seriously - if it's leaking either reduce the crankcase pressure that is pushing the oil out - or fit a new seal....

Thanks guys for your advice. I have looked on other sites too and the advice seems to be 50/50 - use, don't use. Cautious old me has decided to visit my local garage and let them have a look at things. many thanks once again.
