paint bodge

Post by Henry.M »

I have been told that my car is smoke blue, but being as it is a newzealand import, the paint has been burnt to (fill in own word here) :) but the wings had been taken off to be primed up nicely. but being on a tight budget and scheduel, i'm just going for a rat look anyway as this is far cheaper than a full body respray. so the wings, I was going to spray more layers of primer and then... the bodgey bit use halfords nearest alternative to smoke blue which was non metalic ford paint. is this good idea? i only want the car to go through an mot and take me to places, no matter how long the advisory tapistrey is lol and i also want it to be protected from rust. is this going to be sufficient protection?[frame]Image[/frame]

thats the only picture i have on my laptop but thats what the primered wings look like and that is what the paintwork looks like, though bear in mind that this was taken in the summer and the primer is greyer than this in person and the rust is rustier :)

if youre going for the rat look then there is no reason why you couldnt just drive the way she is but its your car and if the halfords way is the only way you can afford then go for it and spend money on brakes, engine and mot. good luck which ever way you decide to go.

He (Borris) :) sad arent I but well i was only going to paint the wings to treat them from rust as they can be deer to replace. But thanks, I have painted te internal gearbox cover placte thing in the colour and it's slightly brighter but not toodifferent, i might just bite the bulley and do it tomorow

You certainly need to seal the primer with top coat paint..... ebay will be much less expensive than Hellfrauds for big spray cans. Do spray in warm + dry conditions, and pre-warm the cans of paint in a bucket of hot (near boiling) water.
