asthmatic sounding

After a long and successful set of trips north and south, today Lily sounds like she is having an asthma attack. Basically i think it might be the petrol pump, but it is going 10 to the dozen in low gear and if you're sat at a junction in 1st / 2nd (which obviously i never do!) but out of gear it's back to a steady beat. It does sound loud though, louder than the pump normally is. At speed /in 4th i can't hear it (though obviously it could be hidden behind all the other rattles and whirrs) - so any ideas folks?
