Re: BMC Special Tuning
Thanks for the link, I've saved it. I have the special tuning pages for the three 'S' minis--950,1071 and 1275 price 2/6d!

Les
Glad you can make use of the link.
I have got couple of original BMC Special Tuning pamphlets for the Sprite/Midget (948/1098/1275). I just wish the prices quoted were current.
I went to the BMC Special Tuning Departments closing down sale at Abingdon hoping to bag a bargain but even arriving just after the doors opened there was nothing of interest left. I came away with a Pyrene fire extinguisher and a few other bits and pieces but no bargains. Anyway at least I can say that I had entered the hallowed ground of the BMC Special Tuning Department.

Interesting to hear of your trip to Abingdon, wish I'd have made the effort. I expect certain people whisked away most of the goodies! Although I have read that several thousand pounds were made on the sale day. My only keepsake is a signed letter from Abingdon in reply to a question I asked regarding flat top pistons for an S, dated '73, not long before it was all over.

Is that your mini in the attached picture? Looks very interesting. The only competition mini I have ever driven was a really light weight 1293cc sprinter with rear beam axle and limited slip diff. Forget about the back end just point it where you wanted to go, press the loud pedal and hang on!

Re: BMC Special Tuning
It was a photo of an 8 port head? C-AEG 612 Iron £180 or C-AJJ 4064 Aluminium £230

Re: BMC Special Tuning
I once went to Arden Conversions at Tanworth in Arden to get a set of gaskets for the Weber 28/36 DCD (they were the local agents for Weber carbs) which was fitted to my A35 van and came away drooling; but being a poor apprentice at that time could afford nothing more than to look and of course the gasket set. You could look into the machine shop and see alloy eight port heads at every stage of production. Even though the place was a hive of activity it was located down a narrow lane (Penn Lane) and was hard to find (no sat nav or post codes in those days). If nothing more I can say I have been to the Arden Conversions site/workshop.
