I'm pretty sure the AA will cover any car regardless of age. Some modern cars break down more often than our old crocks.

I think the only proviso is that you have a limited amount of call-outs each year, to prevent people buying cheap bangers and using the breakdown services as a mobile garage and free ride home.

I know, but the last one I had was exactly the same. Oh it will accelerate rapidly up to 80+, but it just sounds strained at 70 for any length of time. Seeing as the gearbox is in the sump, and the oil pressure remains the same at 75 lbs/sq.in. whether at 60 or 70 MPH, I think it wise to sit there going fast enough to overtake lorries and safe in the knowledge that extra umph is there should I need it. :)

1970s British engineering at its best!

You will have to insure the car to drive it home - and the good classic insurance cos INCLUDE roadside and recovery in the policy (mainly because they don't want your car abandoned at the roadside if it breaks down..)..... so no need to worry about AA ! Top tip - don't pay ANY money until you see/inspect/roadtest the car....and are completely happy with it.
