When you say adjust and such.......... what EXACTLY did you do??

Did you lean it right out?? and if so is your choke working properly? When it was rich you probably did not need much if any choke. If you have leaned it right out then it will probably need a LOT of choke.

Have you tried richening it again??

... And have you checked the lifting pin? I find that my carb is very lumpy due to it being stuck...

yes when it was rich very little choke was required and now i get nothing wityh all of it.

i adusted the jet adusting nut and the ideling stop screw.

choke moves when pulled and affects the throttle slightly.

yeah i reversed the work but obviously wnet too far and now nowt!

yes the lfting pine is fine. it pushes down whent he choke is engaged and returns. I've set the hexgan nut on 12 turns from the top and then a flat at a time down. No good so i reset again and a flat at a time up btu again no luck. I know it needs normal operating temperture when doing this but cos i'm unable to start it i can't achieve this.?????????

cheers, sb

:o

If you're referring to the mixture adjusting nut and meant to write 12 flats then ignore me.
The basic setting is 2 full turns down or 12 flats.

I didn't make it 100% clear...

But the lifting pin isn't the jet assembly. It's a tiny pin which you should feel just to one side at the bottom of your dashpot as Cam said.

Have you checked your needle isn't blocked? - the holes on those things are tiny and it just needs one bit of muck to stop the thing...

Perhaps a rebuild kit? - or a service kit?

The other thing to check is that the jet assembly is pushed in fine. I foudn out once that the jet can almost dislocate and get so far away that it won't work. (Found that out when Hebe stalled in traffic in the summer in Reading)

You mean the jet? The needle does not have holes in it.

Yes... I meant the jet  The Nikki famous word-misuse strikes again...

Earlier on today I asked my partner to "put on the fridge" when I meant "put on the Kettle"

Hello SB,
S.U.'s are pretty basic, so you could have an ignition or mechanical problem. First is to ensure that the carburettor is set correctly, as you have been adjusting it. Take the piston\dashpot assembly off and set the jet flush, then back off 12 flats, switch on the ignition and ensure that you can see fuel near to the top of the jet. Just check that the piston and dashpot is clean and that the needle shoulder is flush with the lower face of the piston. Replace the piston\dashpot. If you lift the piston and release it you should hear a click as the piston falls back down.
If all that checks out then there is nothing seriously wrong with the carburettor.
If the car still won't start then I'd look at the ignition, or far less likely, a mechanical problem such as valves.

the mog has been of the road for about 2 months.

new clutch, crossmember repairs, underside and bit and bobs, nothing in the engine bay.

Got her up and running and all semed par a bad fiting exaust.

MOT day very difficault to start and then bad misfiring for a while and stoped, no restrt possible.

I've done the following: compression test, new points, capacitor, battery, leads and coil. Distributor cap and plugs only six months old and fine.
got it started but again very rough/rich and so decided to adust carb, all seemed fine.

The next day nothing and i'm here. petrol gets into plugs, float ok

frustrated sb.
