Thermostat Gasket
Hi, Please can someone offer me some advice on what type of gasket I need for the thermostat housing (1952 sidevalve engine - no water pump). I currently have the head off my car and and have taken the thermostat hosing off and much to my suprise there is no gasket present? I have done a quick online search but cant seem to find this gasket for sale anywhere? I guess this should be cork gasket or am I thinking incorrectly? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Always a pleasure… Never a chore!
Re: Thermostat Gasket
Here's a universal one - trim to fit your thermostat housing. Failing that all the main suppliers will sell them and, if you buy a head gasket set (pref. with the copper head gasket not the fibre one), you should get the thermostat gasket in their too. Cork ones are the best but this one is OK too.

Cork ones are ok but make sure you tighten to correct torque otherwise they just collapse if too tight . Can not off hand remember

Cheers Alex

Re: Thermostat Gasket
The thermostat gasket is not always included in the head gasket set. I have taken this up with one manufacturer and sent a thermostat housing as a pattern. The gasket should be available by the end of the month and I will inform you when it is ready

The thermostat housing gaskets will be available in one week and will also be included in the side valve head set.

Re: Thermostat Gasket
Hi Mike,
Thats great thanks. I have tried calling them a couple of times but the phone rings a few times and then switches over to the fax. Is there a website where I could get hold of an email address maybe?
Many Thanks,
Karl.

01908 366435 is a tel/fax no. It works for me, you must have been unlucky. The gaskets will not be ready for a week then I will probably be sent a sample to test.

Re: Thermostat Gasket
Thermostat housing gaskets for USHM3 cylinder heads are now available from Gaskets for Classics and they should be included in the head gasket set. Check when ordering.
