1952 Morris Minor 803cc Conversion

Post by 52moggyminor »

hi, i have a 1952 Morris minor Saloon. it has the original 803cc and smooth gearbox. I was wondering what is all involved in swapping it for a 1098cc. Can i use the 803cc gearbox with the 1098? all help would be apreciated. thank you.[frame]Image[/frame]

I doubt if it is a 1952 Series II 803cc as all the '52 803cc cars were 4 door for export. What is the chassis number?

But only a 2 door - and rather later than 52 - unless the front end has been rebuilt using later wings etc. ? To answer your Q - a 1098 engine will wreck an 803 box in next to no time. It is possible to fit the 'pudding stirrer' gear lever to the 1098 engine - with some machining. The final drive ratio will also need changing too - - the 803 is impossibly high at 5.33 - you need a 4.22 (or a 3.9) when running a 1098 engine.

If it is a 1952 803 then it would be very rare and I would restore it to its original condition.

VIN numbers hadn't been invented in 52!! It IS the chassis number.

The chassis no is on the plate on the engine compartment bulkhead. It should start with FB# ##/######. MA did not start until 1958

Chassis no FBB41/194208 is early 1953, the last chassis no in 1952 was approx.175543
F = Morris Minor
B = 2 door
B = Grey (Birch Grey?)
4 = North American Export
1 = Synthetic Paint
194208 = Chassis No.
