Lowering sets, tall driver

Post by Audrey1955 »

Hi,

I have a series 2 minor, with the series 2 seats. As i am tall, i feel that i am too high in the car, and i feel like i am sat on rather than in the car :D
I was wanting to know if there is a way to lower them? I was thinking taking a section of the metal frame out and welding it? Or would it be easier to make a new frame for the seats from scratch?

Thanks

Just move the seat back - there are alternative holes in the floor. As it moves back it also slides down the slope of the floor. I'm over 6ft and have no problem with room. Check also if the seat has the correct webbing in the base...

So would it be best to either take an inch or more out of the frame, or just make a new frame so the seat will sit lower?

I would hve thougt it was easiest to cut and shut the legs on the existing frame. It's only 1" steel tubing so with hacksaw and welding set it's not a long job.
Personally, I'm over 6' and find the MM and Series 2 seats far better than the later ones - the curved back rest being more supportive and nice Dunlopillo base with no saggy webbing. Never thought of the height being an issue though but can see what you mean. I just put the roof down on mine - no only joking, I've driven saloons and LCVs too.
cheers

I'm around 6' 2" and don't find my height to be a problem while driving our Series II. i have the seat as far back as it goes on the mountings, and over came the short wipers by fitting the 948 type so it clears the top of the screan i see through.

Do you not feel like you are 'on' rather than 'in' the car though? I reckon an inch or so lower and id feel better. Probably go an take an inch out of the frame and see how it goes.

Seems a shame to cut a good old S II seat frame - but it's your car!!

Well, an inch or two wouldn't go amiss, you know, especially if you think the average person is a lot taller than in the 1950s...
