What is the spring for on the fitting where the rear seat latches?

I think its just to stop the bar rattling or moving when the cars going over bumps.

It's simply there to grip the latch securely. I find it rattles - -so I have little plastic tubes fitted there inside the 'spring' , and the latch locks in to them.

They'll be going back in in the next day or two, so I'll see what I can come up with for the rattle.
