Back in the fold

Post by autolycus »

After a gap of 25 years in Minor ownership, I've finally rejoined the fold: I collected a 1959 convertible this morning.

I think it's an original convertible, probably not the original engine and certainly the wrong (later) interior, and it's been off the road since 1988, so it needs further recommissioning. It has its faults, but I didn't pay top money for it. I have no doubt I'll be asking for advice on originality and spares suppliers in due course.

First task: get it going. Second task: get it to stop. The first should be simple enough - battery, a bit of petrol plumbing, and a distributor cap; the second should be easy, as it's supposed to have all new hydraulic components, but for some reason hasn't been bled. We shall see.

My 1956 Series 11 Traveller! Bought when I was 17 (1985)....sold 6 years (1991) later......bought back 9 years after that! (2000) With 6 different owners in the middle, what a lucky boy I am!

Bodywork looks in good shape from here at least.
I do like the colour of the soft top.

Not the best weather for a convertible ! Good luck with it... be sure to oil the bores and run the starter without plugs till oil pressure comes up - before even thinking about starting the engine...
