What do you have as the connection between the fuel line and the tank? The connection fulfills two functions - the first is to connect the fuel line to the tank, and the second, and separate one, is to make a sealed connection between the fuel line and the pick-up tube inside the tank.
Useful info, thanks. I bought a complete new fuel line from ESM - flared end pipe with nut. As far as I can tell it sealed ok - where did you get your pipe?

Either Beaulieu or the NEC at some point during the restoration, so that when I came to fit it, it was too late to take it back (not even sure I would have known where!).

The nut should be around 20mm long up to the end flare.
