Etching kits

Has anyone used a home brew etching kit to mark glass with the Vin or registration number?
Are they okay, or is it better to get it done by a "professional"?

if by homebrew you mean DIY then yes i used one on my traveller 20+ years ago and it was/is fine. just take your time follow the instructions and make sure the number /letter outlines are well stuck down or the acid will seep under it and you will get some odd looking numbers / letters.
