Replacing the radiator on a morris 1000

Hi,

My friend moddy went a bit dodge and resulted in him needing to buy a new radiator. He has asked me to help him fit it.
So I was wandering whether anyone could give me a little heads up on things to look out for. I assume its probably just a straight swap?
I am confident with working with cars but just wanted to make sure I don't make any common errors due to the fact that its not my car!

Any advice is welcome.

I am not entirely sure what year or exact model it is, but i think its 1958 and is a 1000 convertible.

Release two hoses and undo 4 screws (2 each side) and lift it away! Can Noddy not do it himself ????

Take a 1/4 Whitworth spanner.

If it's a 1958 and had a heater fitted either originally or fairly shortly afterwards, the heater return hose connects into the bottom of the radiator on the RH side of the car (bottom LH side of the radiator as you look at it from the front). If it does have the early type return, make sure that the replacement rad has the boss in place to take the hose adaptor that you will need to take out of the one currently in the car. Otherwise it's 2 hoses and 4 x 5/16" BSF setscrews as above!

When I fitted a new rad I noticed it rattled, an upside down tip prior to fitting revealed a lump of braise loose inside,just give it a gentle shake first to make sure there are no loose bits that could foul a water pump impeller.
An unlikely scenario but better safe than sorry.

Also remember not to throw away the old radiator - it can always be sent off latter as part payment for a new one BEFORE you replace a future radiator.
