Just taken the plunge and bought a 1954 Minor, bits that need looking at
Head lining (none fitted)
Steering column bush
Bit of welding
no spare wheel.
Thats all I can remember from first look !

Welcome to the forum..... You had better show us pictures of the welding required - obviously the major worry!

Welcome to the forum. Where abouts are you?
I am sure there are plenty of old wheels someone will let you have for a small fee.

Just see this post http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=47036 You shouldn't need to PAY for a wheel - but a good tyre will have some value.

Re: newbie needs advice
Wheels changed before the dash changed- my '54 'cheesegrater' had the Austin axle and therefore later style of wheels (still different to 1000 wheels, but interchangeable). However, I guess if it's got the later dash, it will definitely have the later wheels.

Re: newbie needs advice
Guess I need to get to understand which model I have, most important part is the bush on the steering column which has a lot of play in it.
Car goes well stopping is something else !!!!
I guess I am going to be asking what are quite stupid questions till I get some manuals/books.
My Dad has an A30
However I am more used to Ford stuff as I have a Marlin Berlinetta kit car which is Cortina based.
Thanks so far......
Peter

Re: newbie needs advice
Presumably the indicator switch is under the dash, therefore the steering column bush is the same for all Series MM/IIs, 1948-56

Re: newbie needs advice
Hi Nutts!!
I dont think that the bush for the steering column is still available for split screens. Ive had a look on East Sussex minors site and cant see it listed and they hold a large stock of parts. It may be worth a phone call to them, heres a link to the site.

It may also be worth contacting club spares to see if they have one, otherwise you will need to find one second hand. Also looked at Bull Motif but not listed, probably worth phoning round some of the dealers listed in the club magazine who may have broken up cars.

Re: newbie needs advice
check if it has splines or a keway where the steering wheel goes on

Re: newbie needs advice
you will probably need to find second hand hoops for the headlining (Non Fitted I see) you can get the cloth but new hoops are not available. If you do get a second hand headlining for the hoops make sure you number them front to back because they only go in the correct place. They look the same but each one is very slightly different,if you get them wrongly placed the headlining dosen't fit properly.(Don't ask how I know this
) make sure you get an undamaged ply front former, not available new and can easily be damaged when being removed from the doner car,you will not fit the headlining without one.

Re: newbie needs advice
That is the correct column and bush for your car or try taking the bush, bracket and steering column to your local bearing stockist and see if there is anything available, a metalastic bush perhaps?
It is important that the column is insulated from the bracket or the horn will short out
