Post by Downlemons »

Has any body got a template or positioning guide to fitting wing mirrors on a 59 saloon. I have just fitted new wings :-?

I was told by a chap who entered/enters his vehicle at shows that the mirrors stem centres are fitted 7 inches from the front of the wing and at the highest part of the curve. Make of this info what you will!

Seems reasonable. Theres's no firm rules about it as all wing mirrors were extras, either dealer fitted or aftermarket. I've had a car with a secondhand wing on it and one mirror a good 4" further back fromt he headlamp than the other side! Really stood out once you knew about it.
When I fit them I normally place my little finger on the headlamp rim, stretch my hand out and put a marker pen dot where my thumb is and drill there. It's probably about 7" really.... :)
cheers

Make sure that you fit convex glass mirrors not flat glass and also long arms.
