Can someone tell me the difference between SF40 & SF80 trafficators & when were they used,did the SF 80 supercede the SF40?

Google Lucas trafficators and you should find diagrams of most types. Lowlight MM trafficators were recessed in their slots, later trafficators were flush, presumably they had different fixing plates. Minors are listed as having type SF 80.
