Clutch and flywheel problems

Post by cmec »

A little help and advice is necessary please.
Just taken delivery of a new clutch kit and ring gear for my 1098 engine, and oh dear they don't fit, too big. The gearbox to the engine is an 803 so I wonder if the flywheel has been replaced to the earlier 803/948 so that it would fit the gearbox. If that's the case then I'll need to reorder clutch and ring gear for an 803/948 engine or obtain a new flywheel of a 1098 engine if it will fit. Which way shall I go?

I assume that the car is a Series II. Replace the gearbox with a 1098, the 803 is a rubbish box and will not last long on a 1098 engine. If you want to keep the long gear lever this can be fitted to the back of the 1098 box

I would expect the ring gear to fit...

It' not as simple as it seems, a 1098 engine with flywheel and clutch will not mate with an 803 gearbox, you have to change the flywheel to a 803/941 and its corresponding ring gear and clutch. That is why what you have bought wont fit, the flywheel has been changed to accommodate the 803 gearbox. Either fit your existing flywheel with ring gear and clutch for a 803/941 or get a later gearbox and a 1098 flywheel, its up to you.

later gearbox tends to be more robust when mated with 1098 engine
