On show in Rostock
In Germany at the moment with our Traveller, "Doris". Noticed there was an "Oldtimer Market" in Rostock so took a 3 hour drive up to the coast and rolled into town at 9 o'clock this morning. just as the event opened. These spare parts markets are very popular in East Germany. Not only did we have free entry because we were in an "Oldtimer" but have got paid 100 Euros for exhibiting her in the main hall for the weekend!!!! We had printed out and laminated some signs about 100 years Morris Motors etc and had a table with Ray Newhall's new book, Minor Matters and so on. The organisor put us in a roped off section that turned out to be the territory of the Mecklenberg-Vorpommen Oldtimer Club and we have been adopted as their fisrt Morris Minor!!! They had about 15 interesting vehicles in their section (photos in a day or two) but, needless to say, the Traveller attracted many admirers and compliments. Most people here had never seen one before. Lots of new acquantancies - looking forward to tommorow. We might be the star of the show

Excellent
Do you reckon any of them can be persuaded to come over to the Minor National with their Oldtimers or Youngtimers (yes they have the word 'Youngtimer' in German for cars that are ... well modernish classics I suppose)

It was fantastic thanks, lambrettalad. Our first experience being on show with our "Doris". When we saw the gleaming concourse models on show we felt a bit humbled parking our every day use Traveller there!! But a quick rub down of the bodywork and spit and polish on the chrome worked wonders and, of course, the natural charm of the Morris shone out.
We will certainly pass on the invitation, dp. There were some interesting specimens there that would grace any gathering. There is also a Morris Minor Register in Germany, but there is no mention of any events for this year - maybe we have to join that as well and remind them of the importance of this year
They do seem to have quite a few Minors between them and skipping through their Internet pages it seems that quite a number of them have taken part in events in Britain. Still not got round to putting up some photos from the weekend - will do soon.

Didn't really expect to find anything so far north in the old East Germany. Did find an enamel mug (new), key fob and stuff like that with the Morris logo and even Morris Minors on them - then took the dealers to show them what a Morris Minor looked like in the "flesh"!!!!bmcecosse wrote:Did you find any Minor spares in the market??
