Engine/transmitions - again !

Post by Peetee »

Take a look at this.

Does that mean there is a 1300 in-line engine and 5 speed box combination out there?
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

The spline is for a VW box which was used by Austin-Rover in the 80s. The 1.3 transverse engined Maestro had a VW gearbox.

Yeah I remember that from the previous thread. It was the Montego 1300 I was wondering about. Weren't they all longitudinal engines?
If so, it's curious that they were fitted with a VW comnpatible clutch plate as the last inline VW engine was fitted to the MK 1 Passat (Audi 80) that dissapeared in about 1980 and was a 4 speed.

Definately transverse. I have worked on a few Montys and Ray owned one for a bit I think.

Definately FWD too!
