Brake Master Cylinder Erupting

Post by fillpoke »

Hi All. Went to bleed my brakes. Obviously removed top from master cylinder to top it up. Trouble starts when pumping the brake pedal. A huge fountain of fluid erupts from the master cylinder into the air. Surely this can't be right? Anyone any knowledge of this?

Completely normal, just press gently to begin with.

Wouldn't expect a huge eruption! Perhaps it's too full? There will be some disturbance of the surface - that should be all....

I'm with Tom, a spurt is to be expected. I recommend filling the cylinder and then replacing the cap whilst blrrding - it avoids any possibility of getting dirt into the system whilst you are operating the pedal. Obviously you have to remove the cap every 4-5 presses of the pedal to refill, but much better than getting dirt in - and it prevents the fountain effect spilling over.
