Ammeter

As I am remaking a large part of miriums loom for the alternator anyway, should I fit an Ammeter in addition to the voltmeter ? Or is the Ammeter just another thing to go wrong ?

Hello JM,
generally ammeters will not take the current an alternator can put out and as you already have a voltmeter I would not fit it.

The voltage meter is easier to connect and does not involve the
possibility of Alternator damage should the circuit go open circuit
(depending on the type of Alternator). There are plenty of Ammeters
available which read to 60 Amps which is more than enough but I
would advise 'keep it simple'.

Thankyou very much that's what I needed to know :) I have a +/- 100 amp alternator I bought for the landrover accesory circuit and didn't fit because it wasn't big enough.
