Re: Highlight or Lowlight? - What is your Favourite and why?
The bonnet can stay it still fits the front valance needs a bit trimming off each end as the wings are a different profile,
you need new 'hockey sticks as their shape is different ' but by far the hardest things to find are the headlight rims (I ran an adapted set of motorcycle ones untill I found a pair over in America) theres a chunk to cut out of each of the inner wings (see photo)that is covered by a thing called a 'headlight shroud' all in if youv'e got the parts its really is quite simple even the holes for the head light shrouds are in the inner wings (if original)
There's no welding involved only a bit of angle grinder cutting if your confident with one go for it, its also not that hard to convert back into highlight configuration if you decide to.

Didn't fitting higher lights slow the cars top speed?

Don't think it made much difference to the sidevalves I believe its one of those stories like the fan belt snapping and getting another 5MPH top speed.

Ok, thanks for the advice, looks feasible then. To get a better idea what it would look like I Photoshopped this up...
Looks ok but I am sure some will not think so...
This was a file picture I used and not my car so apologies to the owner. I think a more radical makeover would be in order should we go down this path and given our current minimum finances for the project it may be better to pursue a little more purist path for now.

From what I remember the headlights are 5-1/4 inch units used in quite a few cars and still availiable, the headlights are just held into the grill by the rims there isn't any backing 'pod' as such.
I'm sure a pair could be adapted but the original system is really simple when you actually see it.
I thought a certain parts supplier and modifier was looking to produce a lowlight grill maybe worth speaking to him about one
hint' three letters sounds like a boy band!
If your near the Northwest come and have a look at my conversion which was done using original parts.

5 3/4 inch headlamps are what you need. I wouldn't bother with the sealed beam units (Capri, Rover 2000 etc) but just buy a set of easily obtainable halogen ones from ebay or the many electrical suppliers out there (Vehicle Wiring Products).
Hardest thing to get is the headlight rims, followed by front panel and grill. Buying the lot would cost around £500, then you've got wings to get - JLH sell fibreglass ones - and yes he took a mould from a front panel I lent him, so he may have a panel by now.

Re: Highlight or Lowlight? - What is your Favourite and why?
When getting an mot for a low light how would you adjust the hight of the beam as the lights do not sit in the head lamp buckets the normal 7" lights do ??

Re: Highlight or Lowlight? - What is your Favourite and why?
there is a adjusting screw that goes through the front panel and attaches to the chrome trim ring and it's adjusted via that
james
p.s I'm considering low lighting my traveller, i also have a chrome trim rings and grill for a lowlight if you need some.
