Hi Minisprint,

Have you got a registration for your grandad's Moggie? Particularly for those of us that don't do face ache.

Cheers,

Phil.

The Reg is: 352 AAY (I've now edited the thread title to include this info). More details about the car are here: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=43589

I'm amazed the MMOC don't have a Register of all known Minors - and certainly the current taxed ones !!

The DVLA wouldn't hand that information over - they have to follow data protection legislation. The OP was advised in a previous thread back in March to contact MMOC HQ to see if they could help.

The MMOC do have a register of all Club Members' cars but who collects this info. and to whom it is available is a mystery to me. Data protection probably forbids the disclosure of any information, even to those with a legitimate interest such as this guy.

But note you can write to the DVLA and for a fee they sell you details of all former and current keepers. This is how car-parking rackets make their money. And don't worry - the data is protected under law.

I would imagine the MMOC register isn't too accurate. You put down on the form when you join what car you have, but in my case over 20 years on, although I still have that car, so the info is technically correct, the other dozen or so that I've had over the years are unrecorded. The current fleet of 5(ish) only one will be on the register....

I try to keep a register of all known Series MMs but the data is only as good as the information given to me. The copy on the website does not give names and addresses, only locations, and is updated as and when I have time

Good project there for someone! The data would be protected - but the owner could be advised someone was asking about his car -and given enough details of the enquirer to contact that person IF he wished.

I'm all in favour of the individual registers, such as the MM register for eg, but the overall MMOC register, that presumably exists as everyone fills inthe part on the form when they join is a very much unheard of thing as JowettJavelin says...
I guess it can be used for gleaning various statistics such as 35% of us own travellers, but only 10% have an LCV or something like that. Never seen anything about it in Minor Matters over the last 20odd years though.
Maybe it is possible to ask the office if a particular car is known to exist and they can let the owner know you are interested?

JJ/all - I have tried the write to the DVLA and ask for details route for one of my old cars - a snowberry white, late 1000 Traveller - FYY 809J. (see this thread http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=41192)

[frame]Image[/frame]

DVLA will only release the details of the cars current owner IFyou are able to provide them with a plausible enough reason for them to do so - such as this car hit my car and drive off without stopping or such like. There is a form to fill in (V888), which you can download from direct gov. You also have to pay them £5 - which, in fairness, they did return to me when they refused to help me with my search. I did also ask them to forward my request to give the current owner some further information - including phots and magazine articles relating to the vehicle - onto the current owner if they felt they could not release the owner information to me, but they refused to do that too.

MMOC is also bound by the data protection rules which prohibit the passing on of information to a third party however genuine the request may be. Let's face it anyone could ask for this posing as a bona fide MMOC member and, once they have it, use it for any clandestine purposes.

I've been trying to work out if there is a way to use facebook to post a request for info but the trouble is getting enough people to visit the page to see your post. It would need lots of people to follow it and that's the tough bit I guess.Until a new way is worked out, it's a case of using the forum, Minor Matters and other known publications to try and let someone know you are looking for a particular car.

Meanwhile if anyone new to the Forum has any news of FYY, I would be very grateful to hear from you. The car was last SORN ed until November last year and is now just unregistered. I'm sure it's out there somewhere but WHERE!!!! :(

I don't suggest MMOC would release information - but if someone enquired if ABC 123 was still about - MMOC could confirm if it is known to them , and ask the owner if they wished to have contact with the enquirer. I'm amazed they don't have this database set up already.
I'll start it off

HDM 113 C 1965 Traveller Roy Allingham of ML9 is the owner.

Anyone fancy setting up the database??

Here's me : DPK 558 J Traveller 1970 : exported June 2009 (see DVLA), now AB-338-TD

I know of a saloon exported to France but the DVLA hasn't been informed - still on it's UK plates

The thing is, we all assume the person enquiring is as honest as we are, 99.9% of the time they probably are. It's that 0.1% of bad apple you need to be careful of and this is the reason for the data protection act. We've seen adverts in all sorts of media outlets where Morris Minor cars for sale just don't exist. So we can never guarantee what the original requests to see a car are actuually for.

For the OP. My advice would be, write a letter to have it printed in Minor Matters, or the other Minor Monthly magazine and see if that gets any enquiries. There is also an option to join the MMOC and go to some of the advertised rallies and have a look around. Also check the classifieds regularly to see if it comes up for sale. If it's taxed and in use, I'm sure you may hit on it one day. Good luck. :D

Cam from the Potteries Branch has loaded hundreds of rally photos onto their website dating back to 1989. Might be worth a look (if you have a couple of days to spare!) http://potteries.mmoc.org.uk/Rally_Pictures.htm

I'll be keeping my eyes peeled at shows for this car and noting various points including the age and make of coil!
