Dashboard dials

I was looking at getting some dials, they are quite expensive (not really that much, but there aren't many cheap ones on ebay!) I really like the look, like the photo above.

The dual oil-temperature gauges are nice...

Always plenty at autojumbles which can be had for a few quid. I paid £7 for a Smiths Oil Pressure gauge which works perfectly.

My car came with 4 gauges when I got it. Mounted to a board which is wedged into the previously open glovebox.



Certainly can't do without the oil pressure and water temp gauges. Oil pressure is a much more valuable feature than the low oil pressure light which comes on when it's too late, or when the switch has broken. Not much use in either circumstance.

Water temp is useful for choke use. Cold starts the choke is out, when the needle starts moving i put the choke half way in, at 'normal' the choke is fully in. Easy.

The other two gauges are voltage and current. The current gauge has never worked in my ownership, and the voltage gauge was good for diagnosing charging issues I was having. The only problem the voltage gauge gave me was when the gauge died and started reading very high! Then it was misleading as I never thought that it could have just been the gauge.

I really hope thats done with photoshop or similar rather than in real life. MG midgets are tiny enough with the normal controls fitted....

Not by me, taken off the net, but on closer look, the dash doesn't look quite as sharp as the remainder of the vehicle, so you're probably correct.

Whatever the instrument panel is from, it's for an 8 engined machine! 2 engines to drive each wheel maybe?

Thanks. Tatty early dashboard metal is cheap at the autojumbles but gauges less so. Would look even more subtle without all the lights and switches but they are practical.

Hi,

Your dash looks just like what i want on my Traveller to house switches/gauges/stereo. Maybe a dumb question but is that done with a glove box door of a left hand drive Moggy? Any info would be gratefully appreciated.

That is just what I had in mind, just thinking how to fit the oil pressure/water temp gauge, probably have to file the holes circular with the instruments fitted through the holes

Sorry I've only just got round to replying, I have been on the look out for gauges but been so busy they have been put on the back burner.
Where would you guys suggest getting the gauges from? I've had a look on ebay and seen a number on there. Are there other stockists who stock them at a reasonable price?

Inst. panel is from Series MM. I am turning the rectangular holes into circular holes for the 2" gauges and slightly enlarging the speedo hole to take the rev counter before spraying the panel to match the rest of the dash.

have you tried kitchen door magnets?
