Further to oddbod's post(hope you find the leak )my saloon also has leaking -in problems.
The car had been standing outside for 12 months prior to me getting it. Was very condensed inside. On lifting out rear seat base the underfelt was soaking and there was half a bucket of standing water under the seat. All the remaining underfelt in the car was also wet but only in patches.
What's the most likely cause of the under-seat lake, and others?
George.

Cheers Wilfred, I think my leak is from my Windscreen, and then running down the floor to sit against the back seat as under the seat doesn't seem wet. I keep getting a wet knee when its been raining, but not, strangely, when driving in the rain
As Hanvyj says check the wipers, I had a leak and traced it to the washer jets that had for some reason worked loose.
Another way of helping to trace the leak if it is around the windscreen area is that the glovebox liners could be discoloured or damp.
Sometimes it is easier to find faults like this if you look for pointers.

Opinions are like people, everyone can be different.
I had leaks from all these places. If you can remove them and make a small thin rubber washer to fit under each. This really works to stop the water coming in. I bought a metre of thin sheet rubber from the internet. It works well under the hinges as well (helps stop water getting into the boot area)
Have traced rear under-seat lake source; water runs off roof outside, down screen, gathers on each lower corner lip of screen rubber then emerges in same place inside car! That's one less to solve.
Have taken all the underfelt out which is taking bloomin' ages to dry, even hung up in garage!
Thanks for all the helpful suggestions folks, reckon they'll mitigate or stop all the rest of the leaks
