Engine Information
Where can I obtain information on my engine, or can anyone tell me please I have established that it is a 1098cc. I particularly would like the year on manufacture and any other info would be most appreciated.
Engine Number is 10MA-U-H5514
Thanks

Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
Re: Engine Information
Sorry, forgive me no it doesn't.

Re: Engine Information
What else do you need to know - it's a 1098!! And seemingly 'high'
compression.

Re: Engine Information
Is that all I need, 1098cc 1969 vintage, as I need a new distributor and I'm told they vary.

Re: Engine Information
10MA-U-H5514 would suggest an early 1098 engine, c1962/3? If it is the early engine, then the distributor is a Lucas 25D4 spec 40849B.
The later engines were also a 25D4, but the spec was either 41124 or 41148 (the actual advance characteristics are the same).
The spec is stamped into the distributor body.

No one knows what number in degrees was stamped on the foot of the cam when it left the factory!

Re: Engine Information
The 45D is a much better dizzy - so go for that. SimonBBC or Accuspark will see you right. The engine spec never changed -so why would the dizzy?

Re: Engine Information
Apols, had the '189E' on my brain for some reason!!
Ooops!
1962/3 is correct for 10MA-U-H 5xxx.
Blame it on old age & Morris Z vans!

Re: Engine Information
Thank you all for the information, I am at least a little bit wiser on the history of my engine. It also helps me to chose a suitable replacement distributor, I think.
Is the workshop manual (14 edition?)available on line.

-------unless your the tax man!
Re: Engine Information
OK, a bewildering array of distributors from SimonBBC and Accuspark so is it, "contacts or no contacts that is the question."
Re: Engine Information
I see nothing wrong with points - it's up to you - but I do suggest a 45D is better than the old 25D.
