Re: head gasket leak
if the head gasket had blown would it start okfeel the problem is more ;like a misfire
there is no signs of water vapour from the exhaust
if it was head gasket how much power would i lose

Re: head gasket leak
The car becomes undriveable - which is just as well, because to drive with blown gasket ruins the surface of both head and block. Get the spare engine ready Dennis ! But to be honest - |I think your misfire is something else - are the valve gaps correct (12 in and 15 ex) ?? HT lead loose ? Try another dizzy cap and leads. Maybe it's the coil ???

Re: head gasket leak
changed points, dizzy cap, leads condenser , all one by one
and no difference
valve gaps all ok on saturday
i will double check these gaps
the car is drivable and the misfire seems less at 50
it starts up first time no problem hot or cold

Re: head gasket leak
have you done a compression test may show something up.
Re: head gasket leak
If the plug had not been firing the plug could well be oily/petrol, not the weather for an engine out job.
Thanks for that link earlier.

Re: head gasket leak
Excessive oil coming down the inlet valve stem? What's the history of the head - does it have the later Mini type 'top hat' seals on the inlet guides??

Re: head gasket leak
all new valves and seals on head
Re: head gasket leak
Getting back to basics, if the problem wasn't there before the head swap then I'd now be thinking the trouble is with the head or gasket. If trouble persists then you'll have to bite the bullet and take it off to see.

Hope it lasts 'till the weather gets better, not the sort of thing you need this time of year. Them days are over!
