Manifold Paint.

i want to paint my manifold,seen different paints with various temperatures claimed. What sort of temperature does the manifold get to?

Hi,
I've tried so called heat resistant paint on a manifold before and it didn't last very long. I've also heard of others having similar problems.
The best results I've seen came from a ceramic coating, which looked really good (and can help with under bonnet heat and fuel evaporation, though I don't know of these being a problem on a Minor??). I don't know how much this would cost though.

Lcb headers wrapped in tape look cool , I painted my headers on my old 302 trike and it lasted quite a while but that had air rushing over them when running , not sure if that would make a difference , but theyre tubular steel pipes not orrible pig Iron .What about the blacking stuff you rub on cast iron fire places ? Could be worth a try .

There used to be a paint called Sperex or something similar, that was sprayed on and then needed heat treatment, not seen it for some time though.

Thats the stuff , bike shops are ya best bet

There is Simoniz "sperex" VHT spray paint on Ebay....
The max temp seems to vary with the colour going up to 650°C. Look at other products and just use the one designed for the hottest temp.

Don't know why you'd want to paint the manifold - they were always bare cast iron. Might do more harm than good.

I can see the point if everything is clean and painted under the bonnet, would be a shame to leave a lump of rusty iron!
Mentioning clean under bonnet always reminds me of a guy who did a bit of mechanical stuff for people, he told me once, if he lifted a bonnet and it was a mess, he'd walk away! He went up in my estimation that day.

simoniz high performance engine enamel do a aersol, prt number simvht31b and is very good, would recomend getting the manifold sanblasting first, then two spray coats off the above and you ''should'' be ok! If you dont sandblast it and just wire it, ie electric drill cup brushes, this doesnt remove all the rust and it will flake and rust through again... see photo to see what it will look like when done...
