Just about to embark on a fairly brave restoration project and will need to fabricate much around underneath edges. Can anyone recommend panel thickness to use?

Photo is of boxing sections around centre of car. Cross member started to give way under jack so had to take photo blind.[frame][/frame]

Good luck with this, however, unless you really want to make them yourself, why not save yourself some time and buy the panels you need ready made from ESM, Bull Motif, or the Morris Minor Centre Birmingham (links below). If you're on a budget you can always do it a bit at a time, like I've done.

Thanks Mike, I'll probably do a bit of a compromise - buy ready made panels where they are not too expensive, but I'll be unable to afford expensive bits - so will patch where I can & use scrap metal if I can source some. I'm quite happy hammering metal into shape thanks to doing metal-work at school (in the days when life was in B&W)!

the sill sections are quite difficult to fabricate,yes you can just cut out and plate it up but it will always look bodged,far better to buy the separate sections, inner and outer undersill ,boxing section and then it will look right and put up the value of the car and be sound in another 20years if done properly

It's probably going to need a new crossmember - and NEVER jack the car under any body parts - always under the suspension, or the front chassis members with plenty of timber to spread the load.....even then - inspect carefully. Don't forget - a Minor owner was killed a few months ago when the car crushed him........
