road tax for Felix - simple

Post by wrcnav01 »

Well the welding continues on Felix here on Welsh Borders and being a 1957 Moggie I'd thought I'd have a go at getting him insured and taxed.
One of the many comparison web sites went off and 'compared' quotes for me , my wife and my 17yr old son and came back with 9 results with a difference of £500 between the lowest and the highest.
Clutching these quotes as ammo I approached Footman James via the MMOC 'hotline' and 20 mins later with minimal fuss they virtually smashed my previous quotes by 50% , sending all the necessary paperwork within 24 hrs.

Armed with the insurance cert , V5 logbook (since it was off the road for 18 months with previous owner and therefore no reminder ) I ventured off to the local PO wondering what questions will be asked , such as .... MOT Sir?.... what MOT?.

No such thing , the friendly chap behind the counter checked the V5 , checked the ins cert , made me complete a V112 form which was NAME , REG , sign and select option 'O' for pre 60 vehicles . That was it !

Slightly in a daze as to how simple it was I trundled home and whilst inserting the free 12 month tax disc into the new FJ licence holder I stared at the ground.............. through the whopping big hole I still have in the floor of Felix.

Needless to say Felix is booked into the garage tomorrow morning , to rectify the hole and undertake a roadworthy test but I do wonder if its that simple what the state of some vehicles on the road are going to be 'legally' on the road.
I guess the question is what is deemed as roadworthy.
Hey Ho , such is life.

Hmmm I have just had an interesting thought,

There was an exemption for not having road tax if travelling to a pre-booked MOT, does this continue to be the case for pre '60 vehicles where you can get the disc without the MOT?

Yes Matt , I had the very same thought as I was travelling the eight miles to the village with the only PO open on Wednesday afternoon. (old traditions dont die off up here)
It was slightly un-nerving thinking there's not a bean on the windscreen , a hole in my floor with only the drivers seat present retained by one bolt. (since i knew the work scheduled today would require the seat out)

My only defence would have been an A4 envelope with the V5 and insurance cert in it..... officer.
