Search for the Holy Grail !

Post by Gareth Rogers »

Hi all ! I have need of another fuel tank sender unit. Unfortunately mine is the older type with the screw connection rather than the Lucar. Bull Motif tell me they are ' unavailable' , Bryan at Club spares says the same. Does that mean that all of us with older style fuel tank senders must do without a gauge ? is there any way of fixing the old one?

Depends what's wrong with it..... But I think some have used the later sender, with a ballast resistor to get an approximation of the level reading. Hopefully someone who has done this will come along soon.

Thanks for that BMCECOSSE ! I rang round more dealers, ESM said they had a waiting list for these and would post me when they arrived in!

If you are reasonably capable, take it apart. It's just a wiper on a coil of wire. I have cleaned up a few of them. It is the same unit on many older cars, I had one on a TR3. The only difference is the length and bends in the arm.
