Re: ford sierra disc brakes.
I'd go along with that. The fluid might possibly boil with anything under dot 5, as water might be present but if this was the case surely any compressible gas or whatever produced, like air in the system could still enable the brakes to be operated by 'pumping' and as I understand it fade can't be eliminated by doing that. It is the loss of friction between the drum/disc and shoe/ pad caused by a breakdown at the braking surfaces that's the main cause, in my opinion.
Re: ford sierra disc brakes.
Indeed it is - and the crappy non-asbestos linings don't help............

Re: ford sierra disc brakes.
I had brake fade going down hill. Handbrake didn't help in the slightest.
All my stuff (I was moving flat) in the car didn't help

The discs are 240mm diameter 24mm ventilated. I've put up some photos taken this morning.[frame]

Crazy big brakes for a standard Minor ! But looks a neat enough installation.

I just don't see how brakes that size don't lock the front wheels at the slightest touch... and the balance with the rears ???/

No problems at all with locking wheels, you just don't need much pressure on the brake pedal. I was surprised how beefy they were when I first saw them, but with them being ventilated, they always run nice and cool. The vac servo is responsive as well - no lag at all.
