1950 lowlight (industrial/art deco style) project DYSTOPIA

Post by dystopia »

hi all!

i am new here. i bought a unfinished 1950 lowlight from lee last week which i plan on building up (not a complete classic restore) as i might do this later on when i have more time on my hands, what i am planning is bit more RAW so will start off as a rolling restoration at first as i need to use the car for outings mainly so i can drive places to take photos :) (i am a photographer).

the cars style and look will reflect all the things i love dear to me. 1930s/40s, art deco/streamline moderne, industrial/machine age, rat/hot rods. pretty much what the name suggests. its not bought as a "show" car its for myself, styled specifically for myself, i've wanted a morris minor since i was a kid now i am happy to own one finally :)

i am keeping the original 918cc side value engine. cosmetics exterior - raw/bare polished metal. interior - stripped down very minimal matt/satin black with raw/bare polished metal & custom cutout sheet metal for panels etc. maybe turquoise/black leather seating. that is the look i am going for.

i took some photos of the shell the other day, please enjoy (they are very lowlight moody photos - my style so please take that in mind, more photographic/cinematic looking).

Very atmospheric, I particularly like the aura in picture 4 .

Raw polished metal is rather prone to turning into ferric oxide I'm afraid.

Really nice. If I was going to mod a lowlight thats exactly how i'd want it. Nice choice of colour. I'm not a fan of the bright colours normally associated with hot rodding/modified motors. Always impressed with the amount of engineering and metal work that goes into these hot rods. Mostly unseen from the outside. Is it on the road yet?
