EnLIGHTen me

Post by MacD »

Is there a knack to removing the chrome on the headlight to change the bulb or am I just an eejit? The book says unscrew the screw at the base but when I try I can't seem to locate it. Help please.

There is a hole at the bottom of the chrome headlight bezel which should have a screw in it. If the screw is missing twist the bezel off.

That's it - broad blade screwdriver and gently twist off. Don't lever against the paintwork - put a thick pad of cloth on the wing i any doubt the driver may slip.

Thanks for that lads. managed to get it off but have discovered that it is a sealed unit and can't access the bulbs.
Please advise on best replacement unit . The glass has "Wagner" etched into it.

Just fit a new sealed beam unit- if you are sure that's the problem of course - swap it with the one on the other side to see if it works there...... The usual suspects will be along in a few minutes telling you to 'fit halogens' - and if you use the car a LOT at night, they could be a way to go. But sealed beams are actually very good, and perfectly satisfactory for a standard Minor.
Do check they are working before buying! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/lclassic-mini ... 416e0fd779

I am the usual suspect. Fit a pair of Wipac Quadoptics.
Re fitting the chrome bezel is the difficult bit, lining up the screw hole with the screw grip and fitting the screw. You may find it easier to remove the side/indicator lens

I'll be honest here - I fitted halogens to my TR7 when I got it, but actually the sealed beams in my Minor are BETTER !!
